Chelsea V. Medina.
V? Veronica? Victoria? No, Veneracion. Yes Veneracion. My mom's maiden name. Originating from the word veneration...with a "t". Meaning to honor or show reverence towards. Something I venerate? Something I live my life by?
Creativity.
"What do you think creative means?"
For as long as I've been creating and identifying with this term, I had never completely defined or even broken down its complexity until I was sitting face to face with an internship interviewer the October of my junior year of college. After saying creativity was my "greatest strength", how could I brand and pride myself with a term I did not fully understand? Although taken back, I managed to concoct some type of answer, but the question resonated and still resonates with me.
What makes one "creative"? Innovation or originality? Copying then claiming as your own? The ability to draw a portrait that somewhat resembles yourself? Artsy Instagram photos and punny captions? Does creativity mean I have found my own style solely and uniquely mine?
While I am still searching for the answers to all these questions, I believe I found a fairly useful method to get me there.
Learn.
Reach out and absorb as much as possible about your passion. But that's not enough if you want to break a surface level understanding.
Respond.
Form an opinion on what you're learning to delve even deeper into your craft and inspire conversation.
This digital portfolio aims to do just that. It aims to go beyond a bland site of just photos and my resume. That's what a LinkedIn is for. This website in itself acts as both a display of what I've learned in my artistic career and what I'm continuing to learn about a world filled with endless and changing culture.
So I encourage you to explore, learn a little, and engage in this conversation. It'll make you creative!
